What are the two types of carbohydrates?

  • Complex carbs

This is also referred to as dietary starch that is made of sugar molecules. Complex carbs can usually be found in plants that are high in vitamins and minerals. Complex carbs are nutrients dense, however; it can cause weight gain during your VLCD. You can have complex carbs during your weight loss maintenance. You can have black beans, legumes, lentils, and chickpeas. Complex carbs can also be found in quinoa, corn and potatoes and barley. Make sure to have these after the VLCD.

  • Simple Carbohydrates

Simple carbs are mostly sugar. These are the quickest source of energy but it can cause rapid weight gain. Simple carbs have calories which are not good during the HCG diet. Simple carbs are often to be the cause of weight gain. This is because it causes hunger and cravings. This can be digested fats however; it increases your blood sugar levels. Simple carbs can be taken from milk products, refined sugar, syrups, and soft drinks. However, these are unhealthy for your body even after your HCG diet.

Carbs and sugar can be gradually introduced to your body during weight loss maintenance. Choose whole foods for your HCG diet. You can have whole fruits, vegetables, and lean meat choices for weight loss. Fill your body with vitamins and minerals during the HCG diet. You have to take off carbs on your meal and substitute more fiber, protein, and other nutrients.

Give your body a chance to have a break from various unhealthy food choices. The unhealthy food choices such as too many carbs can cause weight gain. You are also not allowed to eat food flavorings, preservatives, sugar, and other food chemicals.
